Preparation of furniture
Before painting a piece of furniture and give it a second life, protect your other furniture, but also your walls and your floor with tarps or newspaper. Then proceed to the preparation of your furniture. To do this, first clean it with a little water and soap. If your furniture is stained, degrease it with rubbing alcohol. If it has cracks or holes, them with wood filler that you will find on the market. Finally, if it contains drawers, remove them and clean them in turn.
Then prepare different surfaces by sanding the furniture with sandpaper fine grain in the direction of the fibre first, then remove any dust that has arisen over with a sponge or damp cloth and let dry.
Apply an undercoat or primer with a paint roller on your furniture. This will allow the paint to adhere more easily to your furniture and to last in time. Do not forget the corners and other nooks and allow drying for four hours. In some cases, you should apply a second coat. Your furniture completely clean and dry, you can proceed to the next step of painting.
Choose a paint colour that will suit both your furniture to the room where it will be located. Paint the furniture at once, taking care to also apply the paint on the drawers and all the parts that constitute it. Then wait a few hours before placing a second layer. The second layer applied, you can indulge in some fantasies, adding effects, changing the colour of the handles or using stencils.
